To-do During Open Hours

Here are some things you can do during open hours, when you're not helping people use the zine library.

Tidy and organize

Since the Anchor Archive is in a shared space, people often move things around or put things in the Zine Library that shouldn't be there or are in the way. You can sweep the floor, throw out any garbage you find, and move things out that are blocking access to the zines or other resources. Sometimes things need to be moved back to where they belong or we need to find a home for them or get rid of them all together. Talk to other people in the space to figure out where things go or where is the best place to put stuff.

New systems of organization are always welcome! For example, make new signs that explain how things work, where things are, or how the space and resources can be used.

The Zine Distro shelves of zines for sale often needs to be tidied.

You can also move things around to improve access and organization, but please consult with other Zine Library collective members before making any big changes.

Check in and re-shelve zines

Find the box of zines that have been returned and follow the instructions to check them back in to the system and then re-shelve them.

You can also check the mailbox outside for returned zines.

Catalogue zines

If you have been trained in zine cataloguing, you can work on cataloguing zines on the "to be catalogued" shelves or any zines in the library that have not been catalogued yet (don't have a sticker on the back). Cataloguing instructions are here.

Quick catalogue and shelve zines to-be-catalogued

You can also shelve zines that need to be catalogued, so that people can still access them until they're catalogued. This means cataloguing them with the most basic information and adding them to the collection. Follow the instructions on how to Quickly Catalogue a Zine.

Make zine displays and other improvements to the space

As mentioned above in Tidy and Organize, new systems of organization and improvements to the Zine Library space are always welcome! You could create a display of new zines or zines of a certain theme, make new signs, or other improvements.
