The True Cost of Coal is a rhyming storybook from the Beehive Design Collective. It features lessons and activities related to the story’s themes of ecology, colonial history, workers rights, extreme extraction, community organizing, and regenerative futures alongside Beehive Collective graphics designed specifically for colouring on.

This is the first book adaptation of our collective’s art. We are excited for educators and parents to use this book as a tool to teach complex social and ecological issues to young minds.

Alongside intricately detailed art there is a rhyming and simplified narrative, guiding readers through a winding timeline. The story explores important history often left out of classroom curriculum, inspires the reader to question present-day decision-making systems, and encourages us all to envision our own role in moving towards a sustainable and regenerative future.

This zine is the distillation of a month of research, experience and writing about one single plant. Includes: How to identify, when to harvest, ethics and sustainability, nutritional benefits, recipes, medicinal preparations, essays about the dandelion as a binary-exploding lawn wizard, and about the beauty of migration.

About relationships between humans and the land and other living beings, how we view these, and how they're determined by stories and language we use. It compares indigenous and western ways of understanding the world.

Ecology is the study of interconnectedness in natural communities. We use the sense of "anarchist" meaning anti-authoritarian, emphasizing the need to challenge ... mainstream ecology. "Towards" is the most important word. We are not offering clear answers, we are hoping to offer some hints and a starting process.
