The Anchor Archive Zine Library turned 20 years old in July! So let’s gather at 2177 Gottingen on Sunday, October 26 at 4:00 pm to celebrate zines, zine-makers, and the Anchor Archive with an afternoon of zine trades, readings, and performances. And of course, cake! This event is free and all-ages.
You’re invited to bring a zine you made to trade with others and/or do a zine reading or a zine-related performance or presentation. You can read from a zine you made or a zine you love. Just like a zine, your performance or presentation can be about anything you want, just somehow related to or inspired by zines or the zine library.
If you would like to do a reading, presentation, or performance, send your name and a brief description of what you want to do to anchorarchive@gmail.com. Any zine-related thing is welcome, we just want to schedule enough time for everyone.
In 2005, Sarah Evans and Son Edworthy opened the Anchor Archive Zine Library in their living room on Roberts Street, to share their zine collections, support zine-making and zine-makers, and build community around zines. 20 years later, our zine collection has grown to over 8000; we’ve hosted many zine fairs, zine residencies, zine challenges, and zine workshops; we’ve helped people make hundreds of zines; and we’re part of Radstorm on Gottingen Street.
Historic posters and fliers from the last 20 years of the Anchor Archive will be on display.
The Anchor Archive is on the ground floor with a small ramp to get in the building. The ramp to the door may be outside already or you may need to ask for it to be put out. There are two single-stall gender neutral washrooms, one with a SHARPS container. One washroom is large but may not be accessible to all people due to lack of grab bars and other specialized equipment.
Please contact us if you have questions about accessibility or access needs that we can try to accommodate so you can attend and participate in this event.
